Employment


Goal 1: Persons with disabilities who are eligible for services under the Rehabilitation Act, including Social Security recipients and beneficiaries, will be able to obtain or regain substantial gainful employment.
 
Objective 1: 100% of applicants and/or clients eligible for Rehabilitation Act services who contact DLAC for assistance will be provided services including, but not limited to: self-advocacy training, short-term technical assistance, advocacy services, and/or legal representation. Systemic issues will be identified through client-directed advocacy services and pursued through systemic change advocacy.
 
(PABSS) Objective 2: 100% of Recipients of Supplemental Security Income and Beneficiaries of Social Security Disability Insurance who contact DLAC for assistance will be provided Protection and Advocacy of Beneficiaries of Social Security (PABSS) services with issues including, but not limited to: Ticket to Work, Employment Network issues, employment discrimination, transition from school to work, post-secondary education, supported employment, Medicaid/Medicare, Assistive Technology, housing, transportation, and SSA overpayments, if such issues are a barrier to obtaining, maintaining, or regaining substantial gainful employment.
 
Goal 2: People with disabilities will be free from disability related employment discrimination.    
           
Objective 1: Provide legal assistance to persons who have experienced disability related discrimination in employment when there is the potential for systemic change. 
 
Goal 3: Service members and veterans with disabilities residing in Middle Tennessee will receive services to obtain their employment goals.
 
Objective 1: Veterans/Active duty Service members who  contact DLAC for assistance with their return to work efforts will be provided with services including but not limited to: self advocacy training, short-term technical assistance, advocacy services and/or legal representation to address their barriers to employment. 
 
Objective 2: A resource guidebook will be developed and distributed to employers hiring Veterans. 

Goal 4: Persons with disabilities will have greater access to employment opportunities.
 
Objective 1: Engage in systemic advocacy to increase the employment rate of individuals with disabilities.
