May 8, 2012--Disability Law & Advocacy Center of Tennessee (DLAC) will partner with the Tennessee Coordinator of Elections to host six (6) VOTE TN! Train-the-Trainer events across Tennessee. This is the third time that DLAC offers this training program, which covers topics ranging from voting rights and voter registration to resources to help attendees learn about candidates and other issues related to the voting process.

"This program is designed to help persons with disabilities learn more about their role in the voting process and share what they've learned within their own communities," comments Angela Webster, DLAC's Voting Project Manager."We're very excited about partnering with the State for this year's trainings."

This partnership will allow DLAC to host three more training programs in areas that typically do not have as much access to the breadth of information and resources available in the larger metro areas in the state. "We are making a concerted effort this year to reach the more rural and outlying areas in the state by holding sessions in Jackson, Johnson City, along with the urban areas of Memphis, Knoxville, Nashville, and Clarksville," adds Webster.

Pre-registration to attend VOTE TN! is required and will open Wednesday, May 23. Contrary to past conferences, this year registration will be online to help streamline the process.

The VOTE TN! conferences are only part of the work that DLAC does in the area of disability voting rights. This past spring, during the Presidential Preference Primary elections, DLAC advocates monitored the accessibility of dozens of poll sites across Tennessee. "Our voting work truly happens year round," states Webster with a smile. "The VOTE TN! trainings are another piece that ensures that voters with disabilities have equal access to the voting process. Everyone wants their vote to make a difference--that is the key to our trainings."
